Case Studies
Improving overall quality and usability of a convergent network for one of India 's largest mobile services provider.
Client Context : Our client is one of India 's largest mobile service provider with availability in over 1100 cities and towns in India . They have plans to increase coverage to 5000 cities by the end of 2005.
The client network is a pan India , high capacity, integrated (wireless and wireline) and convergent (voice, data and video) digital network, designed to offer services for enterprises and individuals. Their existing setup was as below:
The Requirement : The nature of the business of the client made it heavily dependent on the network infrastructure and faced the challenges associated with a growing network.
- Growing complexity of the network topology
-
Lack of reliable, accurate and automatic detection and mapping of network changes
-
To provide access to reports and real-time health of the network to its end customers as a value added service
- The need to implement new network-based services
The Solution : Netsol implemented a HP OV based solution for these requirements. The project involved implementation of 2 MS and 4 CS and Netsol successfully completed the project in 180 Man Days. The details of the implementation are:
HO OV NNM - It was implemented for the purpose of Fault Management. It facilitated the client to monitor any network outages like link down or node down. Also HP OV NNM was used to interpret traps for protocols like BGP, OSPF and MPLS
HP OV Reporter - OV Reporter was used for the purpose of network availability and performance reporting. Customized reports were created using crystal reports
HP OV SIP - HP OV SIP was used as central console for the end-user. Each end-user was given access to SIP where they can monitor their network equipments
NNM was also integrated with Clarity OSS which is the centralized event processing system at the client organization
The Benefits : The successful implementation by Netsol resulted in significant benefits to the client:
- Improved quality of network services
- Faster incident resolution
- Higher IT staff productivity
- Robust Layer 2 and Layer 3 network management and monitoring
- Provided customer portal for end-users to access utilization reports
- Readiness for advanced network based services in pace with changing needs
