Monitor availability of mission-critical databases and round the clock support for end users using SNAPPiMON for a leading financial services provider in the US.

Customer Context : Our customer is an US based enterprise in the financial sector. They leverage IT to support every facet of their business and state of the art IT infrastructure is the backbone of their business.

The Requirement : The customer faced some challenges managing nearly 1000 large databases using Sybase and MS SQL Server. Some of the requirements were:

  • Automating reporting of database availability

  • Enabling a common definition of database availability status

  • Viewing IT Services as a personalized dashboard

  • Standardizing set of KPIs for monitoring databases and still maintain flexibility

  • Receiving email alerts when database KPI threshold breached occur

  • Making informed decisions on application relocation, capacity planning and software licensing

The customer evaluated several products and solutions to meet the above requirements and decided to implement SNAPPiMON.

The Solution : The solution to meet the customer's requirements was implemented as a turnkey project involving:

  • Design of Sybase and SQL server KPIs to be monitored

  • Installation of SNAPPiMON in test and production environments

  • Configuration of KPIs, thresholds and alarm conditions

  • User acceptance and performance testing

  • Training DBAs

  • Overall project management

The Benefits : SNAPPiMON has helped the DBAs at the customer organizations to focus their attention on the database hotspots and thus be effective in supporting a large user base. Some of the other benefits that our customer enjoys are:

  • Quick deployment of the solution

  • ROI is expected within one year of implementation of SNAPPiMON

  • Ability to view database health anytime and anywhere

  • Better control over KPIs defined for the IT infrastructure
