A historic eye hospital in Chennai has deployed an IT management solution to
monitor the IT operations across its various departments.
Twenty seven years
ago, the holy Brahmi Shankaracharya who hailed from the South Indian temple
town of Kanchi formulated the idea of opening a voluntary eye hospital for
the needy poor. Sankara Nethralaya today has grown into a super specialty
institution for ophthalmic care and receives patients from all over the
country and from abroad. The hospital has also been regarded by the Indian
Govt. as the Best man¬aged Charitable Organization in India', and most
importantly, the hospital has set a benchmark in IT deployment by installing
a state-of the-art IT infrastructure mgmt tool that helps monitor the
functioning of its various IT components-and has a direct impact on the ROI.
The deployment was carried out by Netsol, which offered Sankara Nethralaya a
tool-driven, subscription-based service called NOC-Inside aimed at
automating its IT infrastructure management. In other words, IT Monitoring
for networks, servers, applications, middleware, besides services like IP
traffic analysis, an integrated service desk with support for ITIL best
practices, an integrated asset mgmt to help enable track IT & non-IT assets
including software & hardware inventory scan. The deployment was carried out
inside the customer's environment with remote infrastructure monitoring
service as part of the deal.
With the deployment, the hospital has automated IT monitoring, inventory
management, and service desk operations. The hospital is now capable of
generating daily reports, and can keep track of the entire hardware and
software inventory in addition to ensuring software license compliance.
These reports also help the hospital verify the service level commitments of
their service providers and accordingly gauge their performance. The
dashboard application facilitates real-time measurement of IT service
performance and generates alerts when corrective actions are required. This
helps the facility management team to resolve any errors on the network even
before it escalates to be crisis.
